It's incredible to see how similar organic creatures and machines are structured. Realistically, these two things couldn't be further apart, but the fundamentals are the same: a combination of factors forming what comes into existence. When starting my honors biology class in high school, I knew I wanted to make biology a part of my life. I enjoyed learning the many various aspects of the human body and how each made up. Genetics especially caught my attention, seeing how thousands of genes compile everything that we are. For example: people who live in Alaska are more likely to be genetically resistant to the cold temperatures compared to people from Jamaica. This mix of genes seem random, but they are precisely combined to make a complete organism.Computer systems are built in a similar structure. Like the human body, each component is important for the performance of the machine. However, these components can be interchangeable, which is not the case with genes. When is an i7 processor needed over an i5? How much RAM is needed to run a certain operating system? Can everything fit together inside a micro-ATX case or does the computer need a standard ATX one? Every computer is different, even when working with the same parts. Seemingly random, but are ultimately tuned for the job at hand.Having experience in both science and computer labs, I've come to see how these two fields logically fit together.
