I was the senior development lead for Flexion in a partnership with Follett School Solutions who is the largest supplier of books, eBooks, and audiovisual materials to PreK-12 schools, as well as the largest technology solutions provider for library and resource management.I developed key features in all areas of the K-12 school ebook solution including the ebook reader, notes, highlights, teacher/student collaboration, reporting, data integrations and publisher sales models. The technology stack includes AngularJS, REST APIs, Java EE and SQL Server. To ensure quality, I wrote comprehensive tests at each layer of the application.As a development team lead I was ultimately responsible for overall success of my team. My responsibilities include iteration planning, story assignment, status reporting, removing roadblocks, and providing guidance to team members. My ultimate focus was on the overall success of the team and the delivery of quality software.Prior to Follett, I was the team lead of a distributed delivery team at Lands’ End that was responsible for designing and implementing a RESTful web services layer for the Lands’ End website (landsend.com). I also helped to modernize the architecture and code-base of the customer account and order confirmation areas on their site.A a development team lead, I was the primary contact for the project with Lands’ End management. I developed project plans, communicated team status and performed regular demos of our progress.

Soft Switching Technologies was a University of Wisconsin-Madison tech-transfer startup (purchased in 2013 by Rockwell Automation) that specialized in industrial power correction and monitoring.I was a senior developer primarily responsible for a customer-facing website that collects and reports on power quality events gathered by internet-capable power monitors. I was responsible for all areas of application development and the administration of the production environment. I developed a power quality event aggregation and correlation service that notifies customers when nearby monitors record similar events. I linked weather observations from the National Weather Service to the power quality events and added web service APIs to integrate with third-party power quality analysis tools.I helped develop an internal sales support site to expose the power quality database to the sales organization to trigger lead generation. I added customer deployment mapping, user tracking, PQ event clustering/analysis and notifications of power quality events near key sales prospects. I also helped develop an in-house sales CRM application.Finally, I was also the lead firmware developer for the power quality monitor. I developed the embedded firmware from the ground-up for modularity and testability. I also developed an automated test framework with over 500 firmware tests.

Manugistics was a large supply chain management company (acquired by JDA Inc. in 2006) that specialized in operational decision-support software in the areas of manufacturing, logistics, statistics and transportation.I was the lead for a team that provided expertise on Java EE application server technologies to the rest of the development organization. I authored a servlet framework that became a company standard for web-based development. I was also the algorithm lead for a strategic planning product based on linear optimization techniques. Over the 9 years I worked at Manugistics I was promoted from a Software Developer I to Principal Software developer. I also won several company awards for individual contributions.

I worked on a SAP implementation for James River Corporation (now owned by Georgia Pacific). I helped develop C-based middleware libraries for managing transactions between the mainframe and SAP. Previously I worked on a PowerBuilder-based drug rebate application for Marion Merrell Dow.
