About Kirsty Evans
I am an experienced field worker and have implemented and coordinated emergency response and protection programming in Europe, Asia and Africa - in refugee camps, remote community settlements and urban areas. I am also a proud Type1 Diabetic. My illness does not hold me back and should never be that which defines me, rather it is an undeniable part of me that has honed many skills I would have not otherwise had. Globally, far too few persons with disabilities are able to fulfil their potential due to societal constructs and, ergo, we fail to capture significant expertise from those with additional skills and life experience. We must do better to create space for the valuable and varied human existence to be recognised and celebrated - we will all gain as a result (!!).My roles have included coordinating front-line emergency preparedness and response activities, improving access to child-centred needs-based education and delivering trainings on relavent pedagogies, developing and monitoring protection and safeguarding processes, inalienable human rights awareness-raising, and peacebuilding/social cohesion interventions. Currently in Jonglei state, South Sudan, implementing reconciliation, stabalisation and resilience focused peacebuilding programming (RSRTF), with a focus on unarmed civilian protection (UCP), soon to relocate to Donetsk oblast, Ukraine, as UCP strategy specialist.Sustainable humanitarian actions are achieved through a mix of capacity enhancement and capacity connecting, participatory planning, local ownership over implementation and context-sensitive inclusion tactics to enhance social cohesion, increase exposure, and build peace and empathy between us. We must be willing to learn from each other.
Listed skills include Teaching, Leadership, Project Management, International Development, and 10 others.

Education And Support Officer
I was supporting staff and students at a Fully Accessible Mainstream Secondary Academy. Hall Green School has a diverse student population with a vibrant mix of ethnicities. I established links between this school and two international NGO Education Centres (in India and Cambodia) I worked in previously. The links between these schools has resulted in: ▪ UK trained teachers going out to volunteer at the NGO school in Cambodia▪ The initiation of Skype sessions between UK and Indian students (using the British Council's Connecting Classrooms platform) ▪ Over £6000 being raised for NGO's capacity building purposes by Hall Green Secondary School. I also delivered presentations to students about the importance of voluntary action and raised awareness of educational inequalities to encourage global awareness and social activism.
Aspire Programme Officer
Aspire is a KPMG India CSR scheme designed to build the skills and confidence of vulnerable girl students through quality education, regular mentoring and pertinent inputs to enhance their future opportunities. I worked in Shishu Mandir NGO (Education Centre) based in an area of multiple deprivation in Bangalore delivering KPMG's Aspire Programme. I ran Capacity-Building Workshops, Self-Development Sessions and Personal Identities/Societal Barriers Classes and acted as a specialist point of contact aligning KPMG's CSR ambitions with students' needs. I created content for the Aspire Curriculum to ensure diversified learning styles and developed a thematic Guidance Handbook for future Aspire Educators (detailing Session Focus, Methodology, Materials/Resources, Interaction and Outcomes).I produced regular reports detailing student and project progression. I also compiled detailed M+E reports (such as one focused on efficient allocation of KPMG CSR funds and programme delivery analysis of an NGO Language Learning Initiative).I was involved in KPMG Marketing and used Social Media to share Education and Development Content and raise awareness of Issues of Inequality. On occasions I presented to KPMG's Chairman (Audit and Citizenship) and the wider KPMG team; this included being flown to Delhi to present to KPMG's International Global Head of Corporate Citizenship / UK House of Lords peer. I was involved in 'Aspire' trips that took students out of school to broaden their education experience. These initiatives were successful in increasing Citizenship understanding and encouraging Life Long and Real Life Learning.I have since established a meaningful link between this NGO in India and the UK school I am currently working in using the British Council's Connecting Classrooms Platform.
Aspire Programme Officer (Kmpg India Csr)
I was initially hired as part of the British Council collaboration scheme with KPMG India supporting an urban school with students who born into extreme poverty and multiple deprivation. During this tenure, I became increasingly involved in KPMG India's Education and Development Programme (Aspire) and was given much greater responsibility by KPMG's CSR team. This resulted in my contract in India being extended by KMPG due to my successes delivering the Aspire Programme (see Jan - June 2017). Aside from my dities with the British Council India and KPMG India team, I was asked to be a Guest Speaker at two separate events in Mumbai:• I delivered a thematic lecture on 'Inclusion + Global Citizenship Education' at an International Conference hosted at G.S.B. College of Education (Mumbai) in collaboration with Mumbai’s Centre for Study of Society + Secularism. This lecture was translated into a short academic paper to be published in College’s research.• I led an Interactive Workshop for B.Ed students (training to be teachers) discussing ‘The Challenges of Teaching Language in a Diverse Classroom'. My focal point was on methods to facilitate learning for marginalised students who were not catered for in mainstream education. The aim was to provide B.Ed students with practical techniques they could implement in school to meet all learner needs.
Education And Support Officer
I returned to my position as an Education and Support Officer (see November 2014 - June 2015). I worked with vulnerable and at-risk children born in low socio-economic areas. Many of those I supported were experiencing a myriad of behaviour issues, disabilities, family problems etc; the combination of which had a direct negative impact on their education engagement. In this role, I liaised with health-care officers, social workers, councils, teachers and parents to ensure these childrens' Education + Health needs were prioritised. I was also involved in Education Re-integration plans for children who were ready to return to mainstream education. Part of my duties saw me research materials for specific SEN/EAL needs.
Esl
I worked as an ESL teacher in Taiwan in areas of multiple-deprivation delivering the APEX Education Curriculum which focused on the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) approach to language acquisition. As an APEX teacher, I taught classes of twenty children and organised events to foster real-life learning. All such events required Risk Assessments, Health and Safety Checks and appropriate SafeGuarding Measures. I monitored students' progress and completed regular reports to ensure learning was in line with the APEX objectives. Whilst here, I worked with a team of Canadian, British and Chinese educators to deliver APEX lessons and create teaching materials. This job provided me with an income to volunteer at Eden Social Welfare Foundation (a Taipei based Disability-Rights NGO). See Volunteer Experience Section to find the details of this role.

Sen And Eal Assistant
As an FAM Academy in Birmingham, Hall Green has a diverse student population with a vibrant mix of ethnicities. In this role I worked with students who had SEN and EAL needs. I also supported Looked-After children as part of the Pastoral Department team.
Project Coordinator
Based in an area of multiple-deprivation in Glasgow, Yooz Reuse and Recycle focused on developing initiatives to bring positive environmental and social impact for both the local community and wider nation. Yooz provided vocational work experience for vulnerable NEETs and Long Term Unemployed Adults, offered Construction Companies assistance in reducing their landfill waste and encouraged mentoring schemes and school visits to improve community cohesion. A percentage of Yooz's overall profit went into a fund for local people with disabilities (Active4All SC 036591). I worked as an intern for this Social Enterprise for one year to gain valuable Project Cycle experience.Whilst here, I established successful relationships with MSPs/MPs and mobilised an MSP (Michael McMahon: 1999-2016) to become our Ambassador. I also gained lobbying skills which I employed to convince the Youth Minister for Youth Employment (Angela Constance: 2011-2014) to visit our NGO. I wrote a Parliamentary Motion which was supported by a Cross-Party selection of 22 MSPs and secured a three-day exhibition space for our Social Enterprise in Scottish Parliament. I liaised with the Press, Construction Companies and Schools to raise awareness of the Yooz's positive youth development and environmental impact. I also conducted in-depth research into Local Area Needs (using SIMD) and Environmental Aims (using Zero Waste Scotland targets) to produce related Organisational Reports and compiled Impact Assessments and Case Studies for recording purposes. Another responsibility I undertook was the writing of Press Releases which were regularly published in local newspapers. I was involved in the co-ordination of Mentor Schemes and organised School Visits to broaden the horizons of young people from this disadvantaged area. I helped to set up the Yooz's Twitter and Facebook page and managed Social Media communications sensitively. I would also update and edit website content (using WordPress).
