KIT FITZGERALD is a media artist and professor of new media. Her video, installations, paintings, and live video performances have been presented worldwide. Ms. Fitzgerald began her career as an artist-in-residence at the Television Laboratory at WNET-New York. Her work was noted for the strength of its visual language and sensitivity to music. As an early adopter of digital technology in live performance, she created a series of live video-music operas that bring to video the immediacy and ensemble possibilities found in music and dance. The video operas she created with composer Peter Gordon have toured throughout Europe and Asia.Kit has collaborated with some of the most influential artists-composers Max Roach, Ryuichi Sakamoto; choreographers Donald Byrd, Bill T. Jones,Yoshiko Chuma; poets Sekou Sundiata and Bob Holman; theater companies The Talking Band and Northern Netherlands Theatre.Ms. Fitzgerald directs documentaries on art and culture (on Twyla Tharp, Kenneth Anger, The New York City Ballet, The Jewish Museum), dramatic films, music videos (King Crimson, Qbadisc Records), dance videos, motion graphics/station logos (Tokyo Broadcasting; WNYC/NY), and commissioned work (Tokyo Broadcasting System).Ms. Fitzgerald’s work is in the collections of the the Museum of Modern Art New York and Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. She work has twice been in the Whitney Museum of American Art Biennialand won multiple prizes at film and media festivals worldwide. She has earned grants from The Rockefeller Foundation and Japan Foundation, among others.
