Simbi is an online bartering platform that allows for freelancers and small business owners to exchange services with each other other using a internal currency. With more than 200,000 members, Simbi offers a way for people to convert their excess capacity into real world value, for themselves and for their families. Simbi's investors include Greylock, Maveron, Norwest, and Foundation Capital. It was a member of the Y Combinator class of Summer 2016. In 2019, Simbi was acquired by Heart of Avalon, and continues to operate at simbi.com.

Shortly before and throughout my MBA program at the University of Oxford, I joined the leading nonprofit evaluation organization, GuideStar, to lead up several special strategic projects on behalf of the CEO. As such I spearheaded The Overhead Myth campaign, an initiative designed to raise awareness of the importance of overhead spending by nonprofits, resulting in major shifts in public and private philanthropic policy by the likes of the Rockefeller Foundation and more. Additionally, I designed and product managed a major new product, secured financing from the Kauffman Foundation. Finally, I designed and product managed the new Cause Explorer product, overseeing the concept through several levels of market testing and refinement.

FORGE, an international peacebuilding NGO working in refugee camps and post-conflict zones in Sub-Saharan Africa, was my very first baby. I birthed it at the age of 20, subsequently dropping out of Stanford to build it. By the time I was 22 I had 200 employees working in four countries in some of the most intense operational environments in the world. Our mission was to facilitate opportunities for refugee growth and empowerment (FORGE), which meant investing in victims of war to develop their educational and entrepreneurial potential. FORGE's 27 programs -- ranging from schools and libraries to computer training centers and internet cafes to health clinics and microfinance programs -- provided over 70,000 refugees a year with access to vital services that they couldn't get anywhere else. Achievements include: (1) Building operational and funding partnerships with UNHCR, the US Embassy, the Red Cross, World Vision, WFP, UNFPA, IOM, Right to Play, Search for Common Ground, and Grassroots Soccer; (2) Managing complex logistics spanning five refugee/post-conflict environments across three Sub-Saharan African countries and a US headquarters; (3) Raising funding from UNHCR, IOM, US State Department, Skoll Foundation, Peery Foundation, Bing Foundation, Noyce Foundation, the Alchemy Foundation, Ashoka, Do Something, and more; (4) Managing $2,000,000 P&L; (5) Transitioning all programs to local funding and management, ensuring impact sustainability and longevity.

Produced, organized, assisted in shooting, assisted in edit for 'Far From Gone,' a documentary film about two Congolese refugees, seeking safety in Zambia, as one is resettled to Norway and the other is left to remain in a rural refugee camp in Southern Africa. Qualified the film for academy consideration. "Far From Gone does more in 40 mins than most feature docs can pull off in twice the time. Brilliant!"-- Sheffield Doc/Fest

Founding team at YouWeb, one of the first web incubators. As Entrepreneur in Residence, I formulated, tested, launched and refined web-based social benefit ideas. My focus was on idea generation, market positioning, implementation strategy, user interface design, and content strategy for three incubated startups that have each since successfully exited (CrowdStar, Open Feint (acquired by GREE, 2011), & Spaceport.io (acquired by FB, 2013)).

Working at the Forgarty International Center at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), I designed and conducted a large-dataset econometric analysis to evaluate the impact of the gender distribution of AIDS-related research grants over a 22-year timeframe. Subsequently designed and began implementation on a set of recommendations to improve the female-to-male grantee ratio.
