For the past 5 years, I've been building Arising Ventures -- a modern Hold Co of tech companies focused on turnarounds, recapitalizations, and special situations. Our speciality is buying venture backed startups that have hit hard times -- whether that be a broken cap table, tapped out investors, underwater common stock, cofounder disputes, legal challenges, and more. We bring the operational discipline to turn to them into cashflowing, growing businesses and either hold forever or position them for exit. Achievements and awards include: - Rolling Stone, “25 People Shaping the Future” - CNN, “Person You Should Know” awarded by Anderson Cooper - Skoll Scholarship for Social Entrepreneurship - full merit scholarship to Oxford- Clinton Foundation Honoree presented by Bill Clinton and Queen Rania of Jordan - Glamour Magazine, “Top 10 College Women” - New Leaders Council, "Top 40 Leaders Under 40”- Top Writer in Technology on Medium.com- Y Combinator S16

Ceo & Co-FounderPublic Market May 2017 - Jan 2020San Francisco, California, UsPublic Market is an eCommerce marketplace and protocol that ensures that buyers get substantially lower prices on the same goods they’d otherwise buy on Amazon, without having to sacrifice convenience or risk. By eliminating the large commission fees charged by private marketplaces, Public Market is building a fundamentally new business model for eCommerce: one that aligns incentives between all parties and ensures efficiency-driving competition. Coming out of a year of stealth development, the Public Market product will launch in Q3 with over 10m products available from hundreds of professional sellers. Public Market's founders are successful marketplace and eCommerce entrepreneurs, having founded Y Combinator-backed Simbi (world's largest alternative currency marketplace), Monsoon Commerce (eCommerce platform that's facilitated $10 billion in sales), and Better World Books (Amazon's largest bookseller, $500m+ in sales). Combined, the founders have raised over $170m in capital from investors including Greylock, Norwest, Foundation, Maveron, Vulcan, Tesla, and DBL. -

Additionally, I designed and product managed a major new product, secured financing from the Kauffman Foundation. Finally, I designed and product managed the new Cause Explorer product, overseeing the concept through several levels of market testing and refinement. -
Founder And Executive DirectorForge Nov 2003 - Mar 2013Oakland, Ca, UsFORGE, an international peacebuilding NGO working in refugee camps and post-conflict zones in Sub-Saharan Africa, was my very first baby. I birthed it at the age of 20, subsequently dropping out of Stanford to build it. By the time I was 22 I had 200 employees working in four countries in some of the most intense operational environments in the world. Our mission was to facilitate opportunities for refugee growth and empowerment (FORGE), which meant investing in victims of war to develop their educational and entrepreneurial potential. FORGE's 27 programs -- ranging from schools and libraries to computer training centers and internet cafes to health clinics and microfinance programs -- provided over 70,000 refugees a year with access to vital services that they couldn't get anywhere else. Achievements include: (1) Building operational and funding partnerships with UNHCR, the US Embassy, the Red Cross, World Vision, WFP, UNFPA, IOM, Right to Play, Search for Common Ground, and Grassroots Soccer; (2) Managing complex logistics spanning five refugee/post-conflict environments across three Sub-Saharan African countries and a US headquarters; (3) Raising funding from UNHCR, IOM, US State Department, Skoll Foundation, Peery Foundation, Bing Foundation, Noyce Foundation, the Alchemy Foundation, Ashoka, Do Something, and more; (4) Managing $2,000,000 P&L; (5) Transitioning all programs to local funding and management, ensuring impact sustainability and longevity. -
