I personalize open-domain dialogue systems.During my PhD, I focused on NLP and open-domain dialogue systems. I worked as a Natural Language and Dialogue Systems Laboratory member at the University of California Santa Cruz, working under my advisor, Professor Marilyn Walker.While I've worked on every aspect of open-domain dialogue systems, my dissertation primarily focused on personalization through user modeling and personalized question generation. I evaluated this work in the unique environment of the Amazon Alexa Prize Socialbot Grand Challenge, which enabled me to evaluate my hypothesis at scale with a large number of actual users while grappling with the real-world engineering issues associated with a deployed system.I'm also the CTO and Cofounder of HereAfter AI, whose pioneering platform allows users to create biographical avatars that share their stories for future generations.
