Applying NLP/CL to the checking of Language Translation of major trade languages and minor long tail languages. Much like the 80/20 rule, Initial translations generate more volume of target language data in a short period of time. Machine Translation can help shorten that initial time period. However it is the checking process in which iterative improvements are made that produces much less volume of output while taking longer to accomplish. This also requires more experience and training to accomplish and can be a bottleneck in the workflow.Since the ROI of MT has been long contested and varies greatly by project and prerequisites, I have started focusing my efforts on applying NLP/CL to the checking process in order to reduce bottlenecks in the workflow. Use cases include multiple target language projects where accuracy is more important than adequacy especially where clarity and naturalness are important in the target languages. Not all translation projects will not require such investment. Those that do are the projects in which there is more demand for specific domain experts that are also linguists in each of the source and target languages. Some times none exist. After the checks are performed the few specialized linguists can review the reports to further ensure quality while maximizing their time.Technology being built include a platform to perform the afore mentioned checks and specialized adaptive aligner that can be corrected and leverage the metadata stored. This aligner will be used to reduce the amount of work performed by the translation checker.

Experience as CTO for Sovee has involved maturing three things, products and services, large clients, and the development team. The primary technology verticals were translation technologies and video transcoding/streaming. One patent was awarded in the video encoding/streaming domain and a few of the translation technologies were in provisional patent stage but were not finalized before the company started winding down.The team I’ve led is first class and would love to find a way to continue working with them but have encouraged them all to find jobs due to our company recently shutting down due a catastrophic event resulting in lack of funding. Now it’s my turn to find a new opportunity. My current leads on positions are with localization/translation companies around the world but wanted to explore opportunities in Chattanooga to keep my family on Signal Mountain or at least in the country.

Responsibilities at AirNet including being the full-stack developer resurrecting a struggling outsourced project to being the core platform the company focused their future business model on. Expanding my experience in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, .NET and SQL technologies were crucial in this role.
