Kamran Khan is a senior-level in-house counsel with extensive business counseling and litigation management experience who was previously a partner in an Am Law 150 firm.He has advanced to key leadership roles in the Law Department at Altria, an NYSE-listed company with more than $25B in annual revenue. Altria is the parent company of Philip Morris USA, U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Co., and John Middleton Co.During his tenure at Altria, his leadership has included advising executives, leading teams, managing litigation, overseeing outside counsel, and mentoring employees across the organization.In his current role as Vice President and Associate General Counsel, his areas of legal responsibility include Government Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, and Corporate Citizenship (Environmental, Social, and Governance).A trusted advisor to executive leadership teams, Kamran is known for finding practical solutions that manage legal risk while still allowing the company to achieve important business goals.He served in a general counsel capacity for one of Altria’s operating companies, NuMark, from 2014 until 2018, leading its team of attorneys and legal professionals in the U.S. and Israel. As a key member of the senior leadership team for NuMark, Kamran navigated the rapidly evolving product category of innovative tobacco products and enabled NuMark to launch more than 100 new products in a legally compliant manner. He also advised on a successful FDA submission process and negotiated a settlement that ended a patent infringement lawsuit.Previously, he managed a litigation portfolio for Altria that included products liability, commercial, trademark, intellectual property, insurance, and regulatory matters. Prior to going in-house in 2007, he rapidly advanced from Associate to a sought-after Partner role at Shook, Hardy & Bacon, a premier litigation firm with approximately 500 attorneys. While at the firm, he gained extensive experience in its U.S. Litigation, International, and Regulatory practices, with a focus on complex tort litigation for Fortune 500 firms. Kamran is passionate about advocating for diversity and inclusion within the legal profession and highlighting the role it plays in business success. He is a frequent speaker on diversity topics in addition to leading the D&I Committee within Altria’s Law Department.
