I explored creating pollen grains capable of delivering new genetic information into female flowering plants during the natural process of fertilization.

I studied viruses (hop latent viroid) and fungal pathogens (powdery mildew) in cannabis greenhouses for licensed producers in British Columbia and Alberta. I developed and implemented greenhouse procedures which limited the transfer of pathogens between plants and the accumulation of fungal spores. This led to a significant reduction of pathogen contamination in cannabis grow rooms.

I worked as part of a national scientific team studying strawberry mottle virus. I discovered that this virus needs extra atypical features to successfully make more of itself. This accomplishment has been recognized by the MEROPS database as a new viral protease family (https://www.ebi.ac.uk/merops/cgi-bin/famsum?family=G3) and was featured in the Journal of Virology as a Spotlight article.
