UGL Engineering. Major Projects WestMechanical Construction and Commissioning of two 45MW LM6000 PF dual fuel gas turbine generators and balance of plant equipment. Value approx 90 Million. Manage hydro-testing and flushing of pipework systems by both in house and subcontractors. Managed test pack creation for any project variations and alterations in pipework systems. Completion coordination of test packs including client walk downs and sign offs. Punch list closeout including client sign off of all resolved issues. Review as built documentation. Assist with the close out of documentation to be complied and included in hand over packs and MDR.Prepare and execute notice of energisation (NoE). Prepare isolation and permit to work documentation as needed. UGL Limited. Major Projects WestMechanical QA on two LM6000 PF gas turbine generators and balance of plant. Liaise with client (Fortescue Metals Group) and subcontractors. Write and audit system, sub-system ITP's and inspection check lists to generate ITR's for both in house and vendor packages. Write work instructions, procedures, isolation's and NoE's. Hydro-testing and flushing of pipework systems. I have also completed hazard level calculations for pressure vessels and assist with engineering problems/solutions wherever needed.

UGL Infrastructure. Major ProjectsInstallation of two LM6000 PF duel fuel gas turbine generators and associated equipment. Liaise with client (Fortescue Metals Group) and subcontractors. Run pre-start/toolbox meetings. Technical design queries with GE Energy. Manage a team of up to 20 blue collar workers in construction activities on the GTG’s and BOP equipment. First Mechanical Supervisor on site. Attended and presented at client progress and scheduling meetings. Managed client signoffs of completed work activities. I also dealt with industrial relations issues as they arose in the early days of the project and am proud to say that no time was lost due to any issues not being negotiated and resolved as per the EBA

Supervising work crews in the decommissioning of BlueScope Steel’s Westernport Hot Strip Mill. Labour comprised of Mechanical Fitters, Boilermakers, and Trade Assistants. Supervision of hydro jetting sub-contractors. Removal of all hydrocarbons from systems. Removal of all acid, alkali and other water treatment solutions. Removal of liquid nitrogen and de-energisation of system. Removal of all potential energy sources from site. Undertake brake down and scheduled maintenance on a huge variety of mill equipment. Liaise with production crews to find issues with mill production. Troubleshoot and complete quality repairs to bring equipment back to specification in the shortest duration possible to minimize down time and keep production to maximum output levels. This included determining if any specialist labour was needed, planning breakdown repairs and supervising any external labour needed for repairs. Coverage for production supervisor as needed.Key Responsibilities:• Permit to work preparation. Permit holder.• Isolation planner. Zero rework• Participate in continuous improvement. 5S and lean principlesI also worked as a 'Work Coordinator' this included planning of approved job requests into work packages and scheduling of maintenance tasks. This role also included supervision work of in house and contractor groups during major and minor shut downs.

I gained early release from my apprenticeship to take up this role. BHP Steel puts its best and brightest into shift positions as this is the coalface where the profits are earned. I quickly gained respect from the production crews and was soon the person who was called for by name when issues arose as they knew my work ethics and saw my abilities. Equipment worked on:• High pressure, high flow cartridge water pumps and valves • High pressure piston hydraulic pumps, servo's and system components • Vane, gear and diaphragm pumps and associated equipment • Large piston pneumatic compressors and pneumatic systems • Conveyors• Cooling towers• Gas furnaces• Gas fired combustion engines• Commissioning and trouble shooting of new equipment installations• Large gearboxes, lubrication systems, rolls and other equipment associated with hot rolling flat product steel.
