Helped create one of the first services-only team within SharePoint. Tackled service-specific problems that the organization had never dealt with and found unique and creative solutions as needed. This feature enables SharePoint users to upload custom User Code to a SharePoint server and have that code execute in a highly secure sandbox. Implementing feature involved: adding new SharePoint APIs to allow partners to call into the User Code Execute Pipeline; created a system to enable multiple SharePoint WFEs to communicate to multiple App Servers: created a system to manage multiple worker processes running on an App Server; created custom and extensible load balancing solutions; create a new set of SharePoint administrative APIs; create several highly multi-threaded classes; create a system to force all SharePoint API calls made in a worker process to be executed in an external process.

Learned large and complicated code base, and wrote features to minimize product team costs while maximizing user benefit. Managed a three-month-long project to have Ops replace 12 critical SQL servers. Tasked with creating and implementing the migration plan to move Groups users to the new product being created by the WLX Social Networking team.

Designed APIs intended for clients to use to access the business logic. Designed and implemented several large end user features. Helped create and implement processes needed to help the team be more productive. Trained and managed 1 full-time contractor to create and maintain the team’s build systems. November 2006: Received Consumer Productivity Experiences Excellence Award (Gold Star) for exceptional work and in recognition of value to the team.

Required moving thousands of files from one depot to another, converting the build system from CoreXT to RAZZLE, updating the code to meet many of the new Windows quality gates, and designing the new project layout to allow sharing of code between our windows component and our retail application.

Features included revamping most of the Printing UI, maintaining the Quill text engine, extending the features in the Mini Lab Batch Editor, and significantly improving the product’s overall accessibility.

Worked closely with an external partner to design and implement a web service to enable communication between the Photos.Msn.Com website and the partner’s service. Implemented a web service to enable the Photo.Msn.Com website to communicate between its suite of front end web servers and its set of backend image processing servers, to allow real-time editing of images over the internet.
