Profile bio

About Kriss Leftwich

I'm highly analytical, resourceful, and self-motivated. My primary interest throughout my career has been instrumentation – learning different methods and applications. My undergraduate career in Geology and Chemistry led me to several different projects. My undergraduate work included a chemical-engineering-adjacent study of natural and synthetic zeolites and their use in radioactive waste sequestration. My second big undergraduate project was at the American Museum of Natural History where I had the privilege to participate in an REU studying meteorites. These projects led to the use of diffraction, electron microscopy, and various chemistry methods. My M.Sc. in Mineralogy/Planetary Geology took me into a new genre of planetary science as I studied the hydration cycles of salt minerals and how they might influence the bioavailability of water. That project included SC- and P-XRD, as well as TGA and other chemical methods. My industrial career included a wide range of environmental chemistry (water and soil – various organic and inorganic analyses), asbestos analysis, two x-ray equipment manufacturers (XRD and SAXS).

Listed skills include Water Resource Management, Laboratory, Chromatography, Optical Microscopy, and 41 others.
