I was a student mentor to seven undergraduate biology freshmen and had the chance to share some of my experiences not only as an undergraduate student at the University of Miami, but also as a student with a major in biology. l addressed any concerns they had about course selection, major requirements, and university policies so that I could instill a sense of ease as the incoming biology freshmen transitioned into college life.

I was an undergraduate research student in Dr. William Browne's lab. My research focused on gene regulation during neurogenesis in the model organism Nematostella vectensis, a sea anemone.

I was selected to be a workshop leader in the General Biology class taught by Dr. Michael Gaines in fall of 2010 and the fall of 2011. Once a week, I met with the students who were assigned to me and tutored them in general biology, which helped the students reinforce the concepts taught in their general biology class.
