Kristen Brenner Work Experience Details
  • Chem-Free Solutions
    Engineering Consultant
    Chem-Free Solutions Dec 2019 - Present
    Melbourne, Florida, United States
Offer Biomedical Engineering advice and assistance to the other team members at Chem Free Solutions (CFS). Currently testing the UV LED VersaTILE's ability to disinfect hard surfaces such as counter- and bench tops along with soft, porous materials such as the fabric of lab coats. Responsible for the CAD drawing, editing, refinement and 3D printing of the VersaTILE's outer casing. Also the main editor of the PCB designs to increase their heat dispersion and efficiency. Once I create a new prototype VersaTILE design for CFS and test it, the prototype is sent for larger-scale manufacturing.
  • Kationx Corp
    Vice President Of Technology
Kationx Corp Sep 2019 - Present
    Rockledge, Florida And Lakeland, Florida
Recently promoted to VP of Technology from Technology Manager!Kationx is a Wastewater Detoxification, Degreasing and Flocculant company. All Kationx products are naturally derived, non-toxic, charged powdered mixtures that use their highly cationically (positively) charged surfaces to allow negatively charged toxic substances to adhere to them. Our finely ground, porous particles allow the adsorbtion of up to 50% of their weight in anionic (negatively charged) contaminants such as sulfides, nitrates, nitrites and phosphates. This vastly reduces the Biochemical Oxygen Demand of the wastewater, allowing each batch to be treated more quickly with a reduced residence time. Kationx's robust degreasing powders allow you to blast through the desiccated layers of Fat, Oil and Grease that accumulate in lift stations, pump stations, manholes and other areas of relatively stagnant wastewater, producing a stable Oil-in-Water emulsion that will remain suspended until intentionally disrupted within the settling tank of a wastewater treatment facility for flocculation. I perform field and laboratory air and water quality testing before, during and after treatment to display the reduction in anionic contaminant (ie: prescription drug, polymer and conjugate acids) and 'nutrient'loading (nitrates, phosphates, ammonia, phosphates) in their water. Pure emulsification treatment to degrease a standard 6 to 8 ft diameter lift station or manhole with a solid 'mat' of FOG (desiccated animal and plant derived fats, oil and grease) will release any toxic gases held in equilibrium below and within the mat, including hydrogen sulfide, methane, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide along with other small hydrocarbon gases and gaseous chemical derivatives of the specific water-borne contaminants and bacterial fermentation/metabolism products which vary from location to location. Although our products are not chemically derived, "Chemicals" is the closest industry tag that LinkedIn has!

    Graduate Teaching Assistant
Florida Institute Of Technology Aug 2018 - Dec 2018
    Melbourne, Florida Area
Teach General Chemistry 1 Laboratory to freshman and sophomore undergraduate students from a variety of majors.Prepare materials for laboratory activities and course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments and handouts. Supervise students’ laboratory work and grade lab reports, assignments and papers.Obtain materials for classes and prepare all necessary stock solutions prior to lab. Demonstrate the proper use of all lab equipment, including tools such as beakers, scoopulas and weigh boats along with larger pieces such as fume hoods, hot plates, microscopes and mass balances. Teach basic laboratory safety and emergency procedures. Lead experiments to exemplify proper solution preparation and dilution, determination of limiting reactants and isolation of chemical intermediates.
  • Florida Institute Of Technology
    Research Assistant
Florida Institute Of Technology Aug 2017 - May 2018
    Melbourne, Florida Area
Compared culturing techniques and different media for culturing midbrain Luhmes cells, astrocyte cells and co-cultures of both of these cell types with and without external magnetic field interference and their adherence to alginate-based hydrogel scaffolds. Became competent with nerve cell cell culture.
  • Florida Institute Of Technology
    Research Assistant
Florida Institute Of Technology Aug 2016 - May 2017
    Melbourne, Florida Area
Researched various methods of fabrication for silver and gold nanoparticles with various anionic, cationic and non-ionic surfactants. After each batch was synthesized, they were tested with AFM, STM, TEM and DLS to determine their size and polydispersity index. We aimed for small size distributions and were fairly successful at that. Determined the most effective stabilizing and nonaggregating type and method of application for the surfactants based on AFM/STM/DLS NP polydispersity.Competent with 'wet, practical' chemistry and several microscopies.
