I help owners, developers, contractors, and consultants mitigate risks and resolve disputes on major resources and infrastructure projects in Australia, Asia Pacific, and beyond.I represent clients in international commercial arbitration, investor-state dispute settlement, and litigation in the Australian courts, and work with international colleagues on litigation in other jurisdictions. My recent experience includes acting (including as advocate) in large-scale SIAC, ICC, and UNCITRAL arbitrations relating to iron ore and LNG projects in Western Australia, seated in Singapore and Perth.In my view disputes on construction projects should be resolved as early as possible - though for many disputes this is not an option. I also work with clients during and after the project execution phase on dispute adjudication and avoidance (including statutory adjudication), claims management, and mediation.I am fellow if the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (ACICA) and member of ACICA's panel of arbitrators. I am also active in the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), as a Fellow, a Councillor of CIArb Australia, and Chair of the CIArb Australia Young Member's Group. I have a Masters in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution from King's College London.Before joining Clifford Chance I was in-house counsel at John Holland, where I acted on disputes relating to large building construction and infrastructure projects. I know first-hand the challenges of managing internal clients and stakeholders on large disputes. My approach is that any strategy for resolving a large dispute must start with buy-in from the business.I am particularly interested in comparative construction law, dispute adjudication on complex and international projects, and the interface between construction law and productivity. I have written a number of articles and papers on arbitration and construction law issues.
