As City Engineer for the City of Richfield I gained experience in the operation of municipalities. Much of my time was spent developing programs and policies to protect the public right-of-way, replacing deteriorating infrastructure, maintaining a safe network for the traveling public, and finding opportunities to enhance the quality of life for those the live, work and play in Richfield.

While with Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) I worked as a structural engineer, gaining experience in the design of various types of bridges, retaining walls and culverts in accordance with specified design codes. My background with PB includes abutment and pier design, sheet piling design, pile driven steel H pile design, post-tensioned deck design, and plan set/sheet preparation, drafting, and project management. Effective communication among co-workers regarding policies, procedures and transfer of information is essential in this type of work. I was also active in coordinating activities within PB’s Professional Growth Network.

I was hired on to Mn/DOT as a Graduate Engineer and completed the rotation program through the Traffic, Preliminary Design, Planning, and Construction Departments.In October 2000 I was promoted to the Assistant District Traffic Engineer position overseeing traffic/safety studies and speed limits. Supervising 1 full time employee and 1 graduate engineer.I enjoyed the dynamic nature of the challenges and became passionate about traffic safety.
