Southeast Asia Cycling Expedition | Self-Initiated (1 Year, with Partner)Over the course of a year, my wife and I embarked on a challenging cycling expedition across Southeast Asia, covering more than 3,000 kilometers from Myanmar to China. The 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment• Reached the rank of Lance Corporal• Second in command and responsible for the daily running, administration and welfare of a team of soldiers.• I taught large groups of soldiers on operations in Afghanistan and in the UK. • Performed security procedures at numerous secure military establishments throughout the UK and overseas including CCTV operation, access control, vehicle searches, and perimeter security whilst providing a visual armed deterrent. • Worked in teams of all sizes, preparing for deployment on operations on a global scale. This included servicing and maintaining technical equipment and vehicles, ensuring it was ready for use within tight deadlines. Operational Tour of Afghanistan • Completed an operational tour of Afghanistan of 7 months on the frontline. This role also included teaching and mentoring the Afghan National Army in military and battle skills, discipline and communicating under pressure with people from a very different background and cultures • Worked closely with military personnel of different religions and cultures • Used strong people skills to gain the trust of the local populace in order to gain vital information crucial to our mission and objective • Worked very closely with the civilian population of Afghanistan to gain `hearts and minds` of the people • Humanitarian work in Afghanistan such as giving children school equipment giving villagers blankets and winter clothing for the colder months and providing security for schools whilst teaching is in progress
