About Katherine "Katrina" Slemmons, Phd
Katrina received her PhD in Molecular Cancer Biology at Duke University in the lab of Dr. Corinne Linardic. She studied cell signaling in rhabdomyosarcoma using cell lines and mouse xenografts with particular focus on the Hippo and Notch signaling pathways. Katrina also completed the Duke Graduate School's Certificate in College Teaching where she gained teaching experience by TAing for the undergraduate Intro to Molecular Biology lab. Katrina was a Rally Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the lab of Dr. Lee Helman at CHLA. Her work focused on novel therapies in pediatric sarcomas including osteosarcoma and rhabdomyosarcoma. She is now a Senior Scientist in Oncology Research at Amgen in Thousand Oaks, CA.When she is not in lab, Katrina loves to dance and spend time with her family, friends, and her cats.Areas of Expertise:• Cell and Molecular Biology• Cancer Biology• Mammalian cell culture- leukemia and solid tumor cell lines, primary cells, 2D and 3D• qPCR, RT-PCR, MS-PCR• Immunoblots, immunoprecipitations, chromatin immunoprecipitations• In vivo murine modeling- orthotopic and subcutaneous xenografts, luciferase imaging, drug delivery by IP, SQ, oral gavage• Immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence• Lentivirus and retrovirus genetic engineering• Microscopy
