Annually manage ~$6 million of abandoned mine land reclamation projects for the State of Wyoming, from large-scale geomorphic earthworks projects to small, remote mine closures across the state of Wyoming. Oversee an additional ~$4-5 million in annual project allocation and contracting for the AML’s Statewide Contractor program, which manages reactionary, smaller-scale reclamation projects to address time-sensitive environmental hazards. Provide project oversight and technical guidance while implementing programmatic initiatives to provide climate change resilience, improve habitat diversity, and benefit federally-listed species on AML project sites. Facilitate cooperative agreements with land managers, project partners, stakeholders, and the public. Track work progress with contractors, review designs from consulting engineers, monitor budget expenditures, and negotiate solutions to on-the-job disputes during construction efforts. Analyze complex environmental data and scientific literature to inform and develop AML policy. Responsible for strategic, fiscally- and scientifically-minded decisions that adhere to state and federal policies, procedures, and statutes. Directs environmental compliance assessment audits to track site issues.

Aztec, Nm

Directed project planning, operation, and outreach efforts of the San Juan Watershed Group in Aztec, NM. Implemented restoration and habitat improvement projects within the group’s jurisdiction, secured and tracked grant funds, and conducted community workshops, partnership building efforts, and volunteer recruitment to grow the organization locally. Worked with the local NRCS District Manager to educate and empower local stakeholders to address water quantity and quality issues tied with climate change, population growth, and economic activities in the natural resource sector. Aided in the development of organizational policy and guided program adherence to previously-developed operating plans for the San Juan and Animas River watersheds. Supported Navajo Nation efforts to educate members of the public and implement best management practices for grazing cattle near sensitive waterways.

Provided geomorphic expertise in the context of restoring salmonid habitat in the Pacific Northwest. Duties included habitat assessment and mapping, restoration project design, hydrologic analysis, proposal and grant writing, and project outreach. Primarily duties as a project geomorphologist related to channel design, erosion control efforts, and maximizing benefits to water quality and aquatic/riparian habitat.

Missoula, Montana Area

Analysis and modeling of channel response to large sediment inputs, specifically regarding the Milltown (Montana) and Condit (Washington) dams.

Richland/Kennewick/Pasco, Washington Area

Summer research involving a wide-range of environmental remediation projects. In the lab, developed environmental sensitivity indices and conducted large-scale geospatial analysis regarding aquatic organism abundance and habitat quality. In the field, performed surveys, assessment, and characterization of channel form and aquatic habitat in salmonid-bearing streams.

Prepared crews of 13-18 year old youth and their adult advisors for 10 day, 60-120 mile backpacking treks. Trained crews in first aid, advanced backcountry travel, orienteering, survival, leadership, wilderness safety, and Leave-No-Trace ethics.
