West Workshop is an award-winning architecture and design studio founded in 2017 by architect Kurt West with offices in Washington, DC and Raleigh, NC.The firm’s design practice operates in the field of contemporary design across a spectrum of scales, from commissioned architectural projects, interiors, custom furniture and public artworks.

Design: Created designs for 2 restaurant addition/renovations and 3 commercial tenant improvement projects; Developed zoning studies for 2 multifamily condominiums in Washington, D.C.; Ensured design compliance by reviewing and interpreting building codes and ADA guidelines.Construction Documents: Lead the preparation and production of construction documents for 2 residential and 4 hospitality projects with limited supervision; Generated, reviewed and coordinated building details, dimensions, and schedules internally and with consultants' work.Project Management: Reviewed production team’s work and assisted with coordination between disciplines; Participated in bidding phase by preparing bid documents including addenda and reviewing bid proposals.Business Operations: Trained and managed junior staff’s use of Revit; Rebuilt and managed corporate website and lead weekly business development and marketing meetings; Assisted owner with RFP process.Leadership: Drove increased profitability by convincing owner to adopt a project management and billing software.

Schematic Design and Design Development: Used Photoshop to create renderings for RFP’s, church and elementary school design reviews; Built 3D print models used for client planning sessions and RFPs; Participated in coordination meetings with consultants.Construction Documents: In support of Project Architects, executed redline revisions for 2 elementary schools ($55M).Business Operations: Built physical and digital models for RFP proposals in pursuit of 2 public university projects; Assisted in the preparation of RFP supporting documents; Coordinated and led all model-making efforts at the Alexandria office.

West Remodeling Company is a multidisciplinary design-build-remodeling studio based in Washington, D.C. Our project types include residential and commercial renovations, private residences and additions, custom furniture and site-specific art installations. Residential Architecture: Produced construction drawings for 10 projects working with residential investors; Created construction documents for 5 bathroom and kitchen remodels; Currently designing 3 single-family dwellings and additions.Design-Build: Designed 7 custom furniture pieces, of which 4 were built and another to begin construction early 2013; Led design of a 2,800sf interior renovation of a coffee shop and lounge that is currently under construction. West Workshop is responsible for the design and building of all custom furniture.

‐ Contributed to the making of construction drawings for 20 various‐scaled projects‐ Managed two small‐scale projects from schematic phase through punch‐list‐ Reviewed building codes, fair housing regulations and accessibility criteria on a weekly basis‐ Maintained the firm’s website and produced all marketing materials for RFQ’s

Fabricated large-scale building models and building component studies using materials such as rubber silicone, foam‐core, resin, fiberglass, Z‐Core and polystyrene. Five of the objects produced were included in a solo exhibition of Morphosis’s work at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, 2006. www.morphosis.com
