Profile bio

About Kurtis Hayne

As the Canadian lead for MSC.org, a global non-profit dedicated to combatting overfishing to keep oceans and fish stocks healthy, I focus on working with Canadian fisheries, seafood companies, other environmental NGOs, scientists and consumers to increase recognition and reward for sustainable fishing practices. This is how we ensure future generations will be able to benefit from healthy oceans teeming with life. In addition to being advocates for more sustainable, planet-friendly fishing practices, our mission is to highlight the MSC blue fish label as a powerful way Canadians can easily identify and buy MSC-certified sustainable seafood at the grocery store.  In the past 6 years our team has helped grow awareness of the program by more than 250% – and today Canada is in the top 4 sustainable fishing countries in the world with more than 60% of all wild seafood caught in Canadian waters being MSC-certified sustainable.
