As an EAP instructor currently working at a top university in Shanghai, I am tasked with conducting oral Academic English assessments of my students on a weekly basis. This is done in writing, with comments made on a marking sheet. Students of our program (for which I am a teacher) learn expository writing texts, argument texts and process texts along with presenting an analysis of graphs/tables. Being a workaholic I am most definitely not averse to working on the weekends or working late in the evening if required. With respect to skills and knowledge as an experienced teacher with 10 years spent teaching students of different age groups, I am a keen and attentive listener, with excellent speaking skills and can adapt to any environment depending on the needs of different test-takers /audiences. I am meticulous when it comes to preparation and planning as in my current job teachers are required to submit weekly teaching plans which include individual learning modules and course outcomes as a part of the entire syllabus. I have an undergraduate degree along with a TESOL certification, and am well-acquainted with the examination format of the IELTS test. I need to work daily using technology which means I arrange listening practice for students in a classroom with me in charge of a teacher’s computer so I am adept at using office software as well as other audio-visual platforms and their usage in a classroom. As a voracious reader and teacher of management skills, risk management via mitigating actions is one of my strengths. I have an excellent track record of identifying and highlighting risks that need prompt action and can work individually or as a team if necessary. Over the course of my entire career as language student first, and then as a teacher I have always had a willingness to be inquisitive, an eye for detail, expectation for a high level of accuracy and a flexible approach to my work.
