Dealing with life or death situations both in the water on land. I obtained my first aid qualification, which allowed me to use my knowledge on and off of the job. Making sure that the public, my colleagues and myself were safe was an ultimate priority. This position allowed me to deal with issues in the maintenance side of the pool (chlorine spills etc) that could’ve impacted the health of those around it. I worked at many major events such as the annual Malawi National Swimming Competition and many school organised galas. I became very observant, quick on my feet and alert at all times. As an ex national swimmer I was naturally quick in the water which allowed me to get to swimmers in need as quickly as possible. On the quieter days I spent time training people how to swim and making people comfortable with the water. I went on to do lifesaving as one of my qualifications in IGCSE PE, where I was examined and received extremely high results.
