About Kyla Germain, Phd
Curious and self-motivated cell biologist with 8 years of experience in the neurodegenerative and rare disease space. My love of organelles and metabolism led me to graduate school, where studying a rare disease inspired my motivation as a scientist - to translate basic science into medicines that can help real people. Currently focused on the identification of novel therapies for Alzheimer’s Disease that leverage neuroimmunology. Prior to this, I completed my PhD in Biochemistry where I identified a novel cellular mechanism that may contribute to the pathophysiology of the multi-systemic disease, Zellweger Spectrum Disorder. My technical skills span cell culture techniques and assay development, molecular biology, protein biochemistry, immunoassays, and microscopy. I thrive in fast-paced environments that require organization, intense collaboration, and unity towards a common goal. I am striving for a career that leverages my scientific background in cell biology and translational sciences with my strong communication and teamwork skills, to help solve challenging scientific problems. Outside of the lab, you can find me running, rock climbing, cooking, and searching for the best eats in SF. If you think I’d be a good fit for a potential opportunity, let’s chat!
