I've always wanted to make a difference. In days past I used to think it was through the power of words. I spent many long yeasr about putting pen to paper, of changing the world through little but brilliant pose. It was a wonderful dream and one I still have hopes of carrying out.But as the years went on it, reality reared its head. Words weren't enough. To make a difference and support myself, both action and practical experience were needed. In the search for that experience I enrolled for an Associate Arts degree, then a Bachelor's in theater. It was a enriching formulation experience, but it was only after graduating that I received a wake-up call. Both theater and the written word were my passions, but passion did not necessarily translate to a steady career. Yet in those early days I was able to a reach a union between passion and practicality. As an usher I was able to partake in the world of theater in a special way. It was my duty to make sure all customers felt welcome. After a show I always pitched in to help the others clean the theater and ensure that the next batch of customers would have the best possible experience. It was then that I discovered an aptitude for customer service. It may not have been my passion, but it was a calling. My new calling eventually led me to becoming a receptionist. It was a wonderful opportunity, both to enhance my practical experience and assist customers in a more personal way. Whenever there was a large batch of customers lost and confused, I would always make sure they knew where they needed to go. Both the customers and community made it an experience, but it wasn't to last. Due to uncontrollable circumstances I was laid off, but I wouldn't let that stop me.Soon after I became data specialist for the Minnesota Department off Public safety. Sitting a computer checking customer applications may not have been as personal, but it was no less rewarding. Both the practical experience and correction of applications helped further hone my craft. Even if the experience was less direct, I was still serving customers in need. After a brief detour into the world of banking I ascended to the Federal Government. As a credentialing and badging specialist, my duties have again taken on a more personal nature. Creating a badge for our employee's is important, but so is making them feel welcome. I feel as though I've reached an important stepping stone, but there is so much more to learn. After several years I feel as though I need another change, but I am confident I will be able to continue making a difference.
