Promoted and moved from the corporate office in Kohler Wisconsin with the title of Chemical Engineer for technical support and implementation of the then new rubbed bronze copper/copper oxide coating, (BRZ). I independently changed the look of the Kohler BRZ product by conceiving, developing, and implementing a laser process to apply the graphics to the oxide coatings in place of the original ink pad print design. Key engineer to develop the 2BZ coating as well as the next color to come which hasn’t been released yet. Continued technical support of electroplating of bright and semi-bright chrome, copper/copper oxide, nickel/nickel oxide, cathodic chrome passivation, and PVD vacuum coatings as well as powder coatings, and liquid lacquers on brass, ABS plastic, and zinc substrates. Support of assembly and testing operations, as well as CNC machining to improve assembly efficiencies and product durability to reduce customer returns. Most recent achievement is the my implementation of a very successful robotic cell that brushes parts on a buffing wheel. I designed, purchased, wired, and programmed a Fanuc 200iC robot with only the help of Fanuc, and plant maintenance, and tool room guys. The design includes two trays so that the operator can load/unload on side while the robot works the other. Included a Piab vacuum generator with vacuum sensing to save the pick up fixture from damage in case the part falls off while brushing. Included in the program automatic compensation for brushing wheel ware, and buff wheel change outs as well as a routine to even out the wear across the surface wheel.

Operated and maintained five Hauzer PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) chambers, helped develop the recipe for color adjustment, trouble shot vacuum coating problems, ran tests and supported the development of new colors.

Sargento brought me from Seattle to oversee the equipment installation and implementation of seven new automated production lines in a fifteen million dollar expansion. The installation included six shredded cheese, and one cheese and cracker line. Responsible for the maintenance and operation of two IQF frozen breaded lines, six cheese and cracker lines, and the six new shredded cheese lines with 24 maintenance technicians. Completed 6-Sigma Green Belt Training. Was laid off in a major downsizing of over 85 managers and supervisors in the economic downturn following the 9-11 disaster.

Seattle, Washington

Westco moved me from the Los Angeles area to Seattle to upgrade and improve the production line that produced fifty pound bags of cake and donut mix. Oversaw the installation and operatoin of a Columbia Okura robot for palletizing. Left Westco to pursue the position offered by Sargento.

Pico Rivera, California

Given this title because I had passed the California State Engineer-in-Training test. Reported to the maintenance supervisor responsible for four dry cake mix lines on one side of the plant producing 15 million pounds of cake and donut mix per month, as well as the wet side of the plant which had two jelly lines, an automated pie filling line, a vacuum cooker, two chocolate lines, two cookie dough lines, and a fondant machine. Began flying to Seattle to get obsolete equipment running and later moved for permanent residence.
