Testing mechanical and physical properties of carbon fiber samples to confirm that they meet specifications for aerospace applications, such as being used in airplane engines.Tests include (but are not limited to) yield, density, moisture/oil or sizing content and testing tensile strength and elastic modulus using MTS instruments to break fibers.

■ Researching halogen bonding, and using halogen bonding to form crystalline structures.■ X-ray Crystallography to analyze crystals through using X-ray diffraction and Differential Scanning Calorimetry machines.■ Crystal formation from mechanochemical grinding and solution reaction techniques.

■ Worked with Mechanical engineering graduate students on developing an improved surface for tires on a lunar rover to provide the best traction while simulating the moon’s surface.
