I worked in group therapy for 3 years immediately after receiving my AA in Social Work from Sinclair Community College, but I felt that the diversity of thought in the field of Social Work was very limited and only growing more-so. As much as I enjoyed leading psychoeducational group sessions and helping people to discuss their beliefs, I felt that the only way I could move up in this field was more and more college - and it just didn't seem worth it for what I would be putting in.This led me to begin pursuing one of my other passions in life - technology. I started working on my BS in Computer Science at Wright State University but after 2 semesters of trying to do full-time work while taking classes there, I realized I needed something that offered a more flexible schedule. I found University of Illinois Springfield after some searching and transferred there to continue working on my general CompSci degree - still not entirely sure what I wanted to do in the end.During this time, I transitioned from working in therapy to something which paid a little more although I definitely had less interest in it - loan processing. I found that I really enjoyed and prevailed in dealing with escalated customer situations and fairly quickly found myself in a pseudo-team lead position, primarily dealing with escalated cases and looking through applications for possible fraud. After doing this for just over 9 months, I landed a couple of back-to-back contract jobs in the field of IT to begin inching my way toward where I wanted to be - somewhere generally in IT. After a little over a year of this, I landed a full-time position with a local MSP where my duties were split in three: Help Desk, Imaging & Deployment, and Security Technician.I worked as a Cybersecurity Analyst for a year in the public sector while finishing my bachelor's in information system security. From there, I was recognized as having more of an engineer mindset and promoted to an Enterprise Security Engineer where I continued to work on things such as endpoint protection, mobile device management, and cloud security. I moved on from this role, back into the private sector recently, and am now working as a Security Engineer for a medium-sized MSSP.
