Field Trip Organization and Presentations | Institute of Tectonic Studies 2013 -2016Led geologists, engineers, and project managers of Chevron, ExxonMobil, BP, Repsol, Hess, ConocoPhillips, Shell, Bhp Billiton, and Kosmos, into a remote area in southwest Colorado to observe, teach, and discuss outcrop exposures of analogous structures to deepwater drilling targets (vertical stratigraphy against a salt-diapir). Field trip involved: route planning, safety measures, navigation to specific outcrops, and development of detailed figures for presentation and discussion in the field.Led members of ExxonMobil Upstream Research into Gypsum Valley, Colorado to discuss my research and present findings of an exposed megaflap. Results were analyzed for the purpose of imaging subsurface structures thought to be responsible for the significant relief of the dune field. Through a combination of lectures, labs, and field trips, we addressed topics ranging from mineral and rock identification, geologic mapping, plate tectonics, mass wasting and erosion, paleontology, and environmental topics. ●Instructor for Scientific Illustration and Drafting Using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop Spring 2014, Spring 2015This course was developed by me at the request of my advisor and department chair. I was tasked with developing this class due in part to my interests in design and track record for developing quality scientific figures. This is a critical skill for scientists as we often need to communicate our findings visually to a range of backgrounds. The class was focused on using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, design principles and illustration techniques for the purpose of developing figures that were eventually used in each student’s research. ●Sedimentology and Stratigraphy Fall 2014Responsible for the laboratory portion of the class. Lectures and labs focused on how sediments are produced, transported, and finally deposited. Emphasis was placed on principals of fluid flow, mechanisms of sediment transport, physical and chemical properties of sediments, formation of sedimentary structures and the environments in which sedimentary rocks form.
