Providing re-integration support within the new Community Re-Entry Service Team (CREST) to offenders within Queensland Correctional Facilities. Using a person centered approach, we engage offenders to be interested and pro-active to create their own plan to reduce recidivism. Offenders with a high risk of re-offending that are released on parole are supplied intensive case management, to assess a persons criminogenic behaviors, and incorporate services in their local community to help reduce the likelihood of suspension. Case management continues upon their release on parole, we work alongside Probation & Parole to implement the re-integration plan and adapt it to the current needs of the indervidual.

As a support worker, I use a strengths and recovery based framework to provide individualised support to people with mental illness or intellectual disability to live well, develop skills and community networks while helping them achieve their lifestyle goals and choices. This involved coordinating their care with other members of their team, linking in with other support services, direct outreach and community interaction. Support is provided collaboratively with clients, their families, other supports, and key stakeholders to help provide “quality of life” to the client.

I quickly recognised the opportunity to improve myself and through my dedication and can do attitude in the store was awarded greater responsibility up to being appointed as a relieving manager. I manage the Stockland store on Sundays and Public Holidays, with full accountability for stock and cash flow reconciliation and the end of each days trading. I am heavily involved in daily operations and am competent in managing staff issues and able to quickly address any customer concerns relating to products purchased or customer service at the store.
