Captain (Operations Supervisor)
Lieutenant
I moved to Lifeguard Ambulance Service during the start-up phase of operation. Since this time my knowledge has expanded significantly. Some of my responsibilities include managing scheduling software, establishing and teaching educational certifications, liaison to the county fire services, liaison to Merit Health Wesley’s Stroke Accreditation Program and STEMI Program, QA/QI, and working with our county dispatch to continue to improve our methods. I work with a team of dedicated individuals to continuously monitor the EMS system and to ensure we provide the best service possible.
Field Supervisor
Provide prompt and efficient care of patients and stabilization of condition prior to and during transportation to a medical facility. Conduct thorough examination of patients for signs and symptoms of potentially fatal illness/injury and provide life changing interventions as they are needed. Deliver safe and efficient transport of patients while constantly monitoring vital signs for changes, adapting patient care for most appropriate treatment following protocol for each change. Document all patient care appropriately and truthfully using electronic patient care report. I am also responsible for documenting each encounter to company standards. I assess my medication and medical supply inventory on a daily basis.
Paramedic
During my employment at ASAP EMS, I was placed in a newly acquired county that was in need of some direction. While providing my standard duties as a paramedic, a co-worker and myself established a system for our respective station to track, monitor, and order supplies. We worked together and were successful on improving the moral of other workers while enhancing the methods used for inventory control and logistics.
Paramedic
While employed at the Central Mississippi Division of AMR, I successfully provided excellent patient care and all requirements for employment as a paramedic. I was fortunate enough to be given the responsibility to mentor students on the clinical portion of their program. I was able to relay the importance for professionalism and quality service with each encounter. This was a very rewarding experience for me.
Paramedic
My experience was challenged while at the Gulfport division of AMR. I undertook many new concepts and training for MCI and disaster response due to the frequent hurricanes that hit the Mississippi coast. I performed my typical duties as a paramedic while obtaining my certification with F.E.M.A. for multiple N.I.M.S courses. I also learned more about EMS Operation and Logistics while in Gulfport. I would visit the control center during my time off to better grasp the duties of everyday operations. Regretfully, I had to leave this division via lateral transfer and return to my hometown due to a family matter.
Paramedic
I began my employment as a dispatcher and EMT-Basic. I was attending school and was fortunate enough to work in the process. I graduated college with my Associates degree and Certification as Paramedic. I provided advanced medical care and transportation to the appropriate facility for sick and injured patients. I was also responsible for documenting each encounter to company standards. I assess my medication supply and medical supply inventory on a daily basis. Reason for leaving was the opportunity for a higher education and more flexible work schedule.
Emt-Basic
My first glimpse of EMS came from AMR in Jackson, MS. This is a very high call volume area. Although demanding at times, I needed a challenge to kickstart my career. I was constantly learning and being guided by some of the best paramedics in the field. I was able to apply my newly acquired knowledge to hands on experience. I was responsible for operational readiness, safe transport, and basic knowledge of medical treatment. I remained part-time for as long as possible while attending paramedic school. The reason for leaving this position was due to continuing my education and I was given a leave of absence for school.
