Graduate Research Assistant
I worked as a research assistant for University of Washington's evaluation team for the Washington State Innovation Model (SIM). SIM is a federal grant, which was awarded to the state of Washington to improve the health of all Washingtonians. Specifically our team evaluated the Practice Transition Support Hub interventions, which is a subset of the overall SIM grant. These interventions are meant to help healthcare practices and providers achieve three main goals; integration of physical and behavioral health, creating community linkages, and transition to value based payments. I assisted in the creation of evaluation tools to assess progress towards these goals, analyze data, outreach practices/providers, and assist my team members with tasks. This position provided me more project management experience, team based work, and gave me exposure to the many innovative practice transformation efforts occurring across Washington.

I completed my capstone project with EvergreenHealth, with a two fellow classmates from my Masters in Healthcare Administration program. Our project centered on integrating clinical pharmacists into primary care clinics at EvergreenHealth. Washington State had recently passed a piece of legislation that mandates commercial health plans in the state recognize pharmacists as clinical providers, and reimburse them for their services. We worked with the pharmacy department at EvergreenHealth to assess how to best utilize pharmacists in new settings given this new legislation. We conducted interviews with experts within EvergreenHealth, and other healthcare organizations across Seattle who are leading in utilizing pharmacists as providers. Our team also conducted a thorough literature review to determine best practices. We structured our project to focus on three major content areas for this issue; clinical outcomes, financial implications, and operational structure. We built a Proforma of integrating pharmacists into primary care, and demonstrated a positive financial return for EvergreenHealth. Our team also determined a roll out plan into the primary care clinics, and provided metrics for leadership to track to determine the success of a new provider model for pharmacists. These recommendations were presented to leadership at EvergreenHealth, who plans to use them going forward for implementation and their own future research.
Administrative Intern
I am completed my administrative internship in the Population Health Department at CHI's national office in Denver, CO. I worked with a variety of different national directors for population health functions, including IT, care management and network integrity. Currently internal stakeholders of CHI do not have a way to track the baseline functions of the CINs across the network, and each CIN has variance dependent on it's individual market demands. The purpose of this project was to help standardize processes and purpose across all of CHI's CINs, towards the goal of achieving the Triple Aim in each market served. I completed in work in Value Based contracts, creating side-by-side analysis of the current major ACO models; including Next Generation ACOs, Pioneer ACOs and the Medicare Shared Savings Program. Lastly I completed work in assessments of Network Adequacy requirements across the different states in which CHI operates. This position has given me strong experience in strategic planning, data driven analytics for decision making and population health management techniques.
