Brioche is an new package manager and build tool I've been working on as an open-source project since December 2023. It aims to take the best elements from Nix and Docker, packaged up with more approachable DevEx improvements inspired by Cargo and by leveraging TypeScript as a scripting language.- Write custom Linux container platform for sandboxed builds in Rust.- Integrate core Rust-based build tooling with TypeScript by leveraging Deno/V8.- Implement custom TypeScript standard library to let users write build scripts easily and with strong type safety.- Compile custom GCC-based toolchain for building and packaging portable Linux software.- Manage open-source pull requests, triage issues, and mentor new contributors.- Publish blog posts and technical documentation using Astro, Starlight, and Tailwind.- Host custom horizontally-scalable build cache infrastructure on a tight budget using Fly.io and Cloudflare R2.- Set up self-hosted on-prem build servers using Kubernetes and GitHub Actions.

- Optimize core pricing engine to improve performance and reduce costs- Design large-scale architectural changes to improve business processes and reduce busywork for a growing startup- Work on third-party integrations to expand business reach

- Work on new features and optimizations for core mortgage pricing and underwriting engine in Rust- Integrate with detailed tracing and logging tools through New Relic for better observability, debugging, and application performance insights- Set up Infrastructure-as-Code and CI/CD pipelines to simplify deployment and to improve developer experience for our team- Port existing backend application from AWS EC2 to AWS Lambda with Serverless Framework to greatly improve app scalability and to cut costs- Build public APIs and tools to help customers integrate with our platform seamlessly

- Work to build and maintain a core service for our insuretech platform in Scala (insurance rating and underwriting)- Work to design and improve the architecture and performance for our service- Build internal tools to help understand and visualize the results returned by our service- Continually evolve a complex API to support new requirements, and support other services that integrate with us- Investigate and document topics needed to improve our system (such as sanity-checking large datasets of vehicles and reports, etc.)

- Build new features and fix bugs for full-stack web app (Rails backend and CoffeeScript frontend)- Triage and fix issues on production, and provide assistance to employees using the app- Maintain deployment infrastructure (hosted on Heroku and using Codeship for CI/CD) and handle DB migrations

- Build and deploy websites using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, Clojure, and Ruby on Rails- Investigate and explore new technologies and frameworks- Find and set up hosting solutions on behalf of clients- Collaborate in a team environment using Git and GitHub
