My journey at the University of San Diego has been both challenging and rewarding.Starting college at 16 was a unique experience, with limited guidance due to my age. Nonetheless, I pursued Industrial and Systems Engineering, undeterred by the challenges. Although the engineering curriculum, social dynamics, and balancing full-time work made the journey difficult, my determination pushed me forward. I thrive in a busy environment, as it keeps me learning and growing through each experience—whether academic, professional, or personal. In my last two years, I became deeply involved in leadership roles and independent research. As the former Treasurer and current Vice President of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) Club, I’ve handled club documentation, social outreach, and event organization to ensure our members feel informed, supported, and engaged.Additionally, I am part of the inaugural executive board for Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW) at USD. As Social Media and Marketing Chair, I’ve worked to grow our campus presence through strategic outreach, participation in campus-wide events, and regular communication to attract a diverse membership. My independent study in biomethane production was inspired by a senior design project with Rum & Sargassum in Barbados. I traveled to Barbados to meet with founders Dr. Legena Henry and Shamika Spencer, as well as the Ministry of Energy and Business, to see their process firsthand. Impressed by their work, I chose to further this research at USD, collaborating with Dr. Marissa Forbes and Dr. Odesma Dalrymple to examine the impact of temperature on anaerobic digestion and biomethane production over time.Over the past year, I have developed a wide range of skills while managing two campus organizations and undertaking an independent study, all alongside my academic and personal life. Outside of school, I find joy in hiking with my mother and dog, exploring tide pools, and supporting local farmers markets and bookstores. I also love traveling to connect with friends and family across different regions.I am truly excited for the opportunities ahead and incredibly grateful for those that have already shaped me. I look forward to bringing my unique perspective, energy, and intelligence into the professional world, making a positive impact wherever I go.
