I specialise in complex, high value clinical negligence cases involving cerebral palsy, brain injury, cauda equina syndrome, spinal cord injury and delayed diagnosis of cancer. I act on behalf of injured individuals and their families, to ensure that if they have been seriously injured as a consequence of medical negligence, they receive the amount of compensation that they need to get back as much of their quality of life as possible and to secure their long term future in terms of treatment, care, therapy, suitable accommodation and both financial and social independence. If someone has suffered serious injury, which they think may be due to receiving incorrect or substandard medical treatment, I help them to investigate how and why the injury happened. If the injury occurred because the patient did not receive appropriate treatment, I advocate on their behalf to try to ensure that the same thing does not happen to anyone else in the future, as well as helping my injured client make sure that they receive the full financial compensation that they are entitled to. I also have particular expertise in acting for bereaved families if they have lost a loved one unexpectedly following medical treatment. If an investigation shows that their family member has died as a result of clinical negligence, I make sure that this is brought to light and steps taken to prevent this happening again in the future. Whilst no amount of money can ever replace a loved one, I make sure that the family is at least compensated for their loss of financial dependency.

Partner And Head Of Southampton Clinical Negligence TeamBlake Morgan Llp May 2014 - Aug 2020Southampton, United KingdomI have specialised in claimant clinical negligence claims since qualification in 2004 with Blake Lapthorn, which following a merger in 2014, became Blake Morgan. I have considerable experience in dealing with medically and legally complex high value clinical negligence claims. My role is to advocate for my clients, many of whom have suffered catastrophic brain or spinal injury, to ensure that they obtain the compensation that they deserve to enable them to lead as full and independent a life as possible. I have a particular interest and expertise in cases involving cauda equina syndrome and delay in diagnosis of cancer. Where clinical negligence has lead to a death, my role is to support the family to find out what happened, including inquest representation, and to obtain for them the compensation they need to replace the financial and services support they have lost. Throughout my career I have developed close working relationships with highly experienced and respected Counsel and experts. -
Partner And Head Of Southampton Clinical Negligence TeamBlake Lapthorn Sep 2002 - Aug 2020SouthamptonWhen people have been unfortunate enough to suffer additional injury through or following medical treatment, I help them to investigate the circumstances of their injury and if appropriate, to bring a claim to compensate them for their injuries and associated financial losses, including the cost of rehabilitation to enable them to return as far as is possible to the quality of life that they otherwise would have enjoyed.I specialise in injuries sustained to the brain and spinal cord, both of which are often catastrophic to the individuals and their families, and in delay in diagnosis of cancer claims, which can be equally catastrophic. Where medical treatment has very sadly resulted in the death of the patient, I represent their families, again to find out what has happened and why, to try to prevent the same mistake happening again and to obtain compensation for the family to financially support them through their loss.
