This is a one year experience where Scholars are matched with a high-level industry mentor and for the academic year and receive scholarship support. Scholars have access to additional opportunities which may include faculty mentored research, professional development grants, access to our Cal NERDS Student Center, and additional resources and training (such as empowerment coaching, leadership development, and/or career planning).

In this program I learn about Tech Equity, TechnoInclusion, and participate in critical analysis and reflection workshops. I attend critical reflection workshops where I explore the social and political, ethical and legal dimensions of technical practice. In addition, I participate in public interest technology School of Information lectures.

The Office of Academic Affairs Chief of Staff is the most senior staff member in the office and the most senior advisor to the AAVP on all matters related to the office’s work. The Chief of Staff is primarily responsible for the internal organization and management of the office and its staff, including facilitating office meetings, coordinating work on important projects and initiatives across departments and staff members, keeping track of office finances, elevating priorities and concerns to the the AAVP, and coordinating meetings and initiatives across the ASUC on behalf of the office. The Chief of Staff will also play a key role in the development of office advocacy priorities and in strategic planning for the office and the AAVP. The AAVP’s Chief of Staff is also required by ASUC bylaws to attend the ASUC Conference in the fall semester and the ASUC Winter Retreat in January. Other responsibilities will likely include: Representing the Office of Academic Affairs in meetings with other ASUC units or external stakeholders (students, faculty, administrators, etc.)Attending meetings and speaking on behalf of the AAVP and the Office of Academic Affairs in the absence of the AAVPParticipating in weekly policy leadership meetings with the AAVP and Senior Advisor for Policy to formulate policy stances and define the office’s policy prioritiesServing as an ASUC representative on an Academic Senate CommitteeLeading the Office of Academic Affairs in the absence of the AAVP
