Verification And Validation Co-Op Mechanical Engineering Student

St John’S, Newfoundland And Labrador, Canada

I worked with JVP Labs as a Verification and Validation co-op student on a full-stack data management tool project independently, a 3D design and printing task to improve a testing setup, testing of a medical device prototype, and other tasks as I was needed; often working directly with various members of the company. The data management tool was my largest project, created with the goal of streamlining the testing and data analysis process. This primarily utilized Python's Flask library and Bash for the backend, with HTML and CSS for the frontend, and ran on a Jetson Nano with Linux as the operating system. This tool was used to greatly speed up uploads of testing data to the cloud for the researchers on the team to perform analysis faster, changing a multi-day task to an overnight unsupervised one.The 3D printing task was worked on by collaborating with coworkers who would be using the final product to find requirements and to ensure that the parts would meet their expectations. The device testing utilized custom Python code that I developed based on existing code within the company to run the device for specific stress cycles to watch for temperature and other parameters involving the system's stability.

I used Python to develop software for the device, and I aided with testing through various means including designing a test setup using CAD to 3D print components and working with electronics like breadboards and small DC motors. I also aided in research for the development of the device to inform testing procedures.

Engineer Intern

St John’S, Newfoundland And Labrador, Canada

I was hired as a hybrid co-op student for Dalhousie for my second work term using Python and Excel to work on marine accident data. I continued analysis on the data from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada that I worked on in my first work term using Microsoft Excel and Python. As well, I used MATLAB to analyze marine weather bulletins for the duration and time between weather warnings. Microsoft Word was used to write reports on my work and Microsoft PowerPoint was often used to make presentations for my supervisors and colleagues. This was a joint project between Dalhousie University and the Ocean Engineering Research Centre at Memorial University, so I worked and was supervised in St. John's. I had frequent meetings in person and worked both in an office setting and remotely.

I worked remotely on marine accident data from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada using Python with the Pandas and GeoPandas modules and with Microsoft Excel.
