Avionics test set technicians at the IMA level, inspect, test, maintain, and repair airborne weapon replaceable assemblies, shop replaceable, and ancillary equipment whose aggregate constitutes a complete aircraft weapon system.Day to day activities include testing equipment with instruments, such as circuit analyzers, audiometers, and voltmeters. Also, repairing components of radio transmitting equipment and intercommunication telephone system down to the micro-level.While holding a Collateral Duty Inspector billet my responsibilities included testing, adjusting, and repairing avionics equipment, such as radar, radio, pulse, navigation, auto pilot, and compass systems, installed in aircraft and space vehicles, using hand tools and test equipment. I was accountable for ensuring all avionics equipment was tested for defects, such as loose connections and frayed wire, and for accuracy of assembly and installation prior to returning to the aircraft inventory supply for use in flight. This was accomplished using test equipment such as simulators, oscilloscopes and digital meters in conjunction with NAVAIR blueprints, schematics, handbooks, and other technical documents.
