-Leads the Research Safety team that reviews and consults safety protocols for handling biological, radiation, and chemical hazards in research laboratories.-Conducts risk assessments and safety audits to identify potential hazards and mitigate risks effectively. -Develops training and guidance on handling, storage, and disposal of biological, radiation, and chemical materials to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and promote a safe research environment.-Consults on university capital construction projects to help with developing laboratory and research spaces.

Collaborate with Environmental Affairs Manager on the inspection program in research and teaching laboratories and advising on the Hazardous Materials Business Plan. -Coordinates and assists in annual Fume Hood certification process. Responds to fume hood issues and advises Facilities Services. Conducts fume hood recertification. -Liaisons with campus personnel, principal investigators and laboratory managers on research and laboratory safety, compliance reviews and safety consultations. -Reviews and advises on laboratory SOPs and risk assessments as needed. Helps determine medical surveillance requirements for laboratory personnel. -Provides guidance on personal protective equipment based on laboratory hazard analysis. Work with responsible parties on the process of purchasing, storing and use of highly toxic, reactive or other highly hazardous materials. -Sits on the campus Chemical and Physical Safety Committee and works to review and approve processes using hazardous chemicals, specifically for laboratories and Registered Student Organizations. -Reviews plans related to installation of engineering controls, new laboratory construction and renovation, as requested.-Manages the job duties and career development of additional Chemical Safety employees, provides budgetary and programming feedback. -Prepares and presents training programming. -Participates in emergency response, spill response, accident investigation and safety drills.

•Inspects laboratory and facility areas for regulatory compliance of local, state and federal regulations.
