Lance Lew joined NBC Bay Area as the Director, Community Marketing in 2002, bringing more than 20 years of experience in the entertainment and advertising industry. He is responsible for all community outreach efforts on behalf of NBC Bay Area, including development of promotional campaigns & event marketing. In 2014, Lew launched NBC Bay Area's Asian Pacific America with Robert Handa a weekly events, entertainment & community issues program giving voice to the Asian community.Lew joined California State University Chico's Foundation Board of Governors and served on numerous boards, committees and organizations that serve the greater Bay Area during his career.He co-founded Asian Pacific Fund's Growing Up Asian in America essay & art contest; the largest educational youth program in the country celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage month. This program has distributed over $250,000 in awards to over 700 students in the past twenty years. This year, Lew will continue to supervise the fourth annual NBC Bay Area 21st Century Grant Solutions distributing three community grants totaling $100,000.Lew recently received the Distinguished Alumni Award representing the College of Education and Communications from California State University, Chico and in 1985 established the Outstanding College of Communications Student Award honoring his late father, Norman W. Lew.Through his work at NBC, Lance has used his culinary skills to raise awareness for many non-profit organizations. Most noted are his annual ten-course Lunar New Year feast paired with Sonoma Valley wines, raising more than $140,000 for Sonoma Valley charities . This dinner has been documented by food section articles in the SF Chronicle, Press Democrat, Sonoma Magazine and on hungryempress.com. He currently serves as a broadcast and programming judge for the James Beard Awards.
