About Lap Hing (Leo) Chi
A patent scientist / trainee transitioned from academic and clinical research positions.I studied Chemistry at Peking University, and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Melbourne. I have conducted laboratory research between 2015 and 2023 to elucidate dysregulated signalling pathways in cancer, to develop patient-derived preclinical models, and to identify novel therapeutic targets for treatment. My PhD project at La Trobe University investigated the potential of a protein, BMP4, in inhibiting breast cancer metastasis. My postdoctoral research projects focused on the development of combination therapies that activate anti-tumour immune responses at metastatic sites, and the development of patient-derived models to investigate the mechanisms and effectiveness of these therapies. These projects also involved extensive bioinformatic analysis and effective communication to audiences of different backgrounds.I have also facilitated the conduct of dermatology clinical research as a clinical trials coordinator with extensive knowledge of the current best practices to satisfy regulatory requirements and patient demands.
