My love for all things number-related started with some dedicated teachers who made maths a puzzle to solve. After wanting to be an accountant as a ten-year-old, I went on to work in logistics, purchasing, production planning and administration, only coming full circle back to accounting some 20 years later.I’ve enjoyed the challenge of transitioning a small company’s accounts and administration from a manual system (think A5 notebooks) to a digital system and worked with a fantastic team validating large volumes of data as part of an SAP implementation. More recently I’ve been on a steep learning curve working with group accounting and thoroughly enjoying working in Sweden while having daily contact with my international colleagues.What energises me most (apart from my daily caffeine dose) is having a problem to solve or a new skill to learn. Perhaps my love of Excel is my guilty secret, but I love the fact that the more you know about Excel, the more you realise you’ve just scraped the surface of what it can do.My time spent as a production planner taught me the challenges and satisfaction of being the ‘spider in middle of the web’ and I’ve enjoyed this in small and large environments. I’ve managed the accounts for a UK software development SME, worked in a project finance team at an international technology consulting firm and currently work in group accounting at the headquarters of a global springs manufacturer owned by a listed company.The other love I discovered as a child is the joy of photography and I’ve been lucky enough to move to a country (Sweden) where there are abundant opportunities for beautiful photographs, as my long suffering Instagram followers will attest to.
