About Lark Chang-Yeh
As a recipient of the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship at UC Berkeley, I'm spending this upcoming summer delving into independent research funded by Berkeley, focusing on understanding how AAPI drag and ballroom communities, emerging from the context of the Asian diaspora in the San Francisco Bay Area, navigate issues of race, class, and cultural appropriation within a predominantly Black cultural framework and history.Additionally, I was honored to receive the Berkeley Center of New Media Spring Fellowship Award, where I currently work on at the Media Education Research Lab (MERL) led by Professor Abigail De Kosnik. In this role, I help develop methods for measuring and representing diversity in media, aligning with my passion for challenging mainstream narratives in film and television.Furthermore, I'm also currently pursuing a Sociology thesis titled "Transgressive Transness: Divine and other questions of authenticity, taste, social boundaries, and Trans-normativity." My research explores deeply transgressive representations of trans femininity in film, questioning norms and boundaries while redefining cinematic taste.Previously, as a Research Assistant under the Undergraduate Research Apprentice Program at UC Berkeley, I worked on the "Towards Equity by Design" project. This initiative centered on equity, sustainability, and the transformation of inequitable systems entrenched in education.I have also previously won the Charlene Conrad Liebau Library Research Prize at UC Berkeley for my research project and creative website on Gabby Petitio and Missing White Woman's Syndrome. I am driven by a desire to push boundaries, challenge norms, and foster inclusivity in both academic and societal spheres. Let's connect and explore ways to create meaningful change together.
Listed skills include Leadership, Teaching, Writing, Entrepreneurship, and 8 others.
