Tyler Technologies is the leading provider of software products for local governments.My primary role is providing advanced support and resolution for difficult and critical performance issues with high visibility (Management, Directors and VPs). Secondary to this is providing support for product database upgrades.I’ve been recognized a total of 15 times with 11 spot awards and four platinum awards, and counting.

Currently, I'm a senior database engineer primarily providing advanced support and resolution for difficult and critical performance issues. Secondary to this I provide support for product database upgrades. Most performance issues I address are caused by bad execution plans, leaving others caused by an underperforming Virtual Machine (VM) hosting SQL Server. Addressing bad execution plans requires both proof and resolution. VMs on the other hand being client owned and their responsibility, require a different approach: a custom a benchmark utility that executes a “kryptonite” query where the results are compared to an empirical set of measurements. Another role I fill is being a key member of a team whose responsibility is to assist in resolving high profile performance issues. The group consists of managers, VPs, and our team. My duty is to identify the cause(s), collect proof, share a summary of findings with the group and owning product team, provide and or work with the product team on a solution, and follow up with support to ensure the fix is delivered to the client and meets the performance goal. Along with the database engineering role I provide support for product database upgrades, working with software engineers on errors and or query performance issues, and sometime an on-the-fly workaround to keep the upgrade on schedule.

AutoEurope’s main line of business is distribution of car rental services for internationally bound business and leisure travelers through the leading global brands: Auto Europe, Kemwel, and DriveAway Holidays.I began as an application developer where I programmed, using Dephi 7, a fast and efficient backend process to price Air Fares using rules from our air fare contracts. The backend process was a multi-threaded component for a web service that runs 7/24 x 365.Thereafter, I was asked to help fill our DBA position. This required on the job learning of administration of both Informix and AIX Unix. The highlights of database administration included the following tasks: monitoring (7/24 x 365) of production databases through the use of shell scripts I programmed, resolving performance problems--mostly bad execution plans--installation, upgrades, and Enterprise Replication.In addition to these administration tasks, I assist developers with writing SQL, tuning SQL execution plans and solving database problems introduced by client applications.

Maine Marine Software’s product was a 3D bathymetric charting system, a multi-threaded application written in C using OpenGL, that generated a 3D image of the ocean floor from irregularly spaced soundings data (latitude, longitude and depth).

I-many specialized in Contract Management software for the pharmaceutical industry.My primary role was to modify their client server product (CARS, with about ½ million lines of code) in strict accordance to specifications defined by business analysts. Another task of mine was converting client processes to server processes, i.e., move processing code that resided in the client application to the server (Oracle 9i PL/SQL) for their Medicaid product. The objective here was to examine client-side code with an eye for improving its performance so larger volumes of data could be processed in an acceptable amount of time.

Duncanson & Holt (D&H) was a reinsurer for the insurance business and was wholly owned by UNUMProvident.My initial role at D&H was maintaining their internally developed rating system, programmed in C. Thereafter, I moved into a database administrator role. Database Administration included the following: disaster recovery, improving performance, maintenance, upgrading, security, database design, and business reporting via a data warehouse I researched, designed and developed.I was nominated twice for the President’s Award.

The company’s main focus was Electronic Commerce software developed with PowerBuilder. This includes an electronic catalog specifically designed for the office supply industry.The emphases of my contributions to the electronic catalog were the following: programming with PowerBuilder 5.0, anti-pirating measures, EDI processing, a remote database synchronization application, and Visual Basic serial communication programs used for file transmission.
