I am an aspiring biomedical researcher looking to work in research and development in the biomedical or pharmaceutical industry. I started my research career through the NSF Engineering Research Center for Cell Manufacturing Technology (CMaT) over the Summer of 2019. My project focused on protein analysis of a mouse muscle stem cell line to determine the effects of hindering certain enzymes produced by these cells. This experience gave me the opportunity to network and present my research findings at the 2019 ABRCMS conference in Anaheim, CA and the 2020 ERN conference in Washington, DC. This lead to my second research project through the Ronald E. McNair Program at the University of Mississippi in 2020. My project entailed writing a literature review to give a comprehensive overview of key design parameters of local and systemic drug delivery biomaterials used in cancer immunotherapy. This project opened my eyes to the vast applications of biomaterials and fueled my desire to pursue a graduate education to study the development of drug delivery biomaterials to treat different ailments such as cancer, diabetes, and open wounds, among others. The main goal that I hope to achieve in my life is to help at least one patient receive treatment when all other treatment options have failed them.
