I am a specialist in the field of Data and Database Management. In my 40-year career as a data architect, data modeler, database developer, consultant and teacher, I have developed an extensive repertoire of tools, techniques, and expertise that enables businesses to more easily reuse their data and derive maximum value from their databases. I have a background in application development, and have contributed significantly to the success of many major projects. My development background enables me to work closely and effectively with development teams on both traditional waterfall and Agile projects. I am also involved in teaching, lecturing and writing on various topics of database management and application development, particularly Agile Development.I am the author of the books "Building The Agile Database" (Technics Publications, 2011), "Growing Business Intelligence" (Technics Publications, 2016) and "Data Model Storytelling" (Technics Publications, 2021) and wrote a feature column for TDAN.com from 2005 to 2013. I was also a contributing author to DAMA International's Data Management Body of Knowledge (DAMA-DMBOK), and an instructor and advisor in the University of Washington's certificate program in Data Resource Management.My other interests include landscape gardening, hiking, canoeing, reading and music. I play several instruments, and write poems and humorous essays. I am a longtime member of Toastmasters, the public speaking organization.
