About Larry Dennis
It has been about a year since I stepped down as Dean of the College of Communication & Information and started redirecting my time away from things that others wanted me to do to things I want to do.First and foremost I love teaching IT, its application and dissemination to others. So I really love teaching my two courses: 1) Information Technology Project and 2) Introduction to Information Systems and Services. Watching people develop into IT professionals is very rewarding and I am happy to be a part of it.Last October, FSU received a grant from TRIUMPH Gulf Coast (the Florida group that received some of the Deepwater Horizon lawsuit funds) and I am now leading a very dedicated group of people who are promoting IT, computer science and computer engineering education in middle and high schools ( https://pc.fsu.edu/ascent ). As part of this effort we are creating and operating professional development for teachers, technology clubs for students, computing and e-sports competitions (we maybe even have a drone rodeo in our future). These activities are putting me in touch with administrators, teachers and students across the Florida Panhandle, and frankly I can't think of anything I would rather be doing. While many of the schools in North Florida are state-of-the-art, some students don't have access to the opportunities they need to prepare for IT careers. I am trying to focus our project's efforts and make the many FSU STEM outreach activities accessible to all students in the Florida Panhandle.I can always use help and advice.A dedicated, highly skilled and experienced Dean Emeritus of College of Communication & Information with an established track record in providing excellent teaching to faculty and students. Experienced grant leadership. Excellent communicator with outstanding interpersonal skills focused on building collaborative relationships within the community. Dedicated leader who is highly organized and able to balance multiple responsibilities to ensure success of the academic community as well as departmental goals. Some of my prior activities: Physics faculty, CLAS Collaboration Coordinator, Director FSU Supercomputer Computations Research Institute, Director FSU Office of Distributed and Distance Learning, Dean College of Information, Dean College of Communication & Information, Chair Dean's Research and Creative Activities Committee, help create 5-year BS-MS-Computational Physics, BS-Scientific Computing, BS-Information Technology, MS-Information Technology, BS-Information Communication & Technology, FSU Innovation Hub.
Listed skills include Research, Public Speaking, Grant Writing, Program Management, and 27 others.

Professor
CurrentAfter 17 years as Dean, I've returned to the faculty to focus on teaching information systems and services, data management, project management, and data analytics along with expanding the IT and Information workforce. I also get to be a Dean Emeritus, (which I think means they didn't fire me and I can let people assume I know it all) and instructor. I'm enjoying working with our great IT students. I'm also working on getting more students aware of all the great IT jobs via a project funded by TRIUMPH Gulf Coast, Inc.I am really excited about where the TRIUMPH Gulf Coast effort is leading me. I've had the opportunity to connect with people at Florida A & M, the University of South Florida, the University of Florida, and Gulf Coast State College, The LEAD Coalition of Bay County and the Apalachicola Moving Education, Inc. All are helping us get more students connected with IT. I'm also excited about working the the KaKua Institute in Pensacola, and the homeschool coalitions in Bay County, both of which are working hard to prepare kids for next generation jobs.My current goals including helping FSU build a strategic plan for STEM outreach and working with educators across the Florida Panhandle to improve the education and lives of the citizens of North Florida.
