While part of ECC’s Design Build Center of Excellence provided design direction and assistance on projects such as Wilford Hall Medical Center Repair for Clinical Transition at Lackland AFB, and Building 901 Renovation at Randolph AFB which was designed and built to meet LEED Silver using an innovative non-base standard VRV mechanical system. Worked on Mazar-e-Sharif SOF and Kandahar Phase III in Afghanistan, which included working with our DB partner in Ankara, Turkey. While working in the ECC’s Energy Group worked on a Fort Bliss Net Zero Technologies Study for Concentrated Solar and a Solar Wall system for a large warehouse at the New Cumberland Defense Depot in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania which in the winter would pre-heat outside air before entering the mechanical units, thus lowering the heating load.

Provided on-site management during construction of the NBA San Antonio Spurs’ AT&T Center Basketball Arena and coordinated information between Hunt/SpawGlass, Project Control, the Spurs’ staff and the Ellerbe Becket home office. 18,500-seat arena was built in 2 ½ years for $200 million, also holds ice hockey and concerts, as well as the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.

As Manager of Design and Construction, responsible for management of a five person department Provided Project and Construction Management for the renovation of an old Kroger Grocery Store into offices for five VIA departments. This $3.5 million project, which was bid before my joining VIA, had over 50 Price Request for changes which lead to major redesign of to the first floor, the hiring of an outside interior design firm 6 months into construction and the additional finish out of a 10,000 sq. ft. second floor space. Management duties included meeting with VIA departments to review their needs, designing and producing drawings on CAD for the proposed changes, developing Price Request and their cost estimates, writing Request for Qualification for outside consultants, reviewing of the proposals, negotiating the contracts and review and approval of contractor's monthly pay request Other projects included development of plans and specifications for Airport South/Ellis Alley Park and Ride and the Amtrak Train Station which was designed to match the other buildings at the historic Sunset Station. Management responsibilities included project scheduling, staff assignments and staff development.

This $220 million program renovated 30,000 rooms at 202 hotels in 21 months. Responsibilities for each property included scoping the property for extent of work; develop floor plans, purchase list and liquidation list; provide quality control reviews of working drawings. Assisted in developing budgets; Made design field changes during construction; Assisted in room inspections to establish level of quality. Additional work included major exterior reimaging of 10 interior corridor properties so that they were similar in appearance to La Quinta's newer properties, corridor and lobby reimaging, meeting room renovations and a "Room on the Road" trailer used in La Quinta advertisements.

Assisted in the development of Space Standards Data of all prison buildings for use in furniture/equipment layout and procurement, space/function analysis and facility management. Provided Post Occupancy Evaluation of Central Health Facility and provided design development for new Health Service Satellite Facilities and for Correctional Treatment Centers at new prisons. Management responsibilities included assigning engineering project teams for review for site adaptation of Standard Design Documents.
