About Larry Paxton

Dr. Paxton is developing innovative techniques for understanding the geospace (near-Earth) environment as well as understanding the impact of an ice-free Arctic on our security and prosperity.Other activities that he leads include the use of novel sensors for space environment monitoring. Dr. Paxton currently leading the Geospace and Earth Sciences Group at the Applied Physics Laboratory of The Johns Hopkins University. This group of 35 researchers spans activities from the ocean to near-Earth space.As the Principal Investigator of the DMSP Special Sensor Ultraviolet Spectrographic Imager (SSUSI) and NASA TIMED Global Ultraviolet Imager (GUVI) projects he has managed and led over $100M in projects. Recently he was awarded a NASA Institute for Advanced Concepts grant for CRICKET. CRICKET looks at the use of simple robots to explore the surface of the moon or other objects to look for water ice.Dr. Paxton is President-Elect of the American Geophysical Union's Space Physics and Aeronomy (SPA) section. This section has over 4000 members.
