The Cascade Passenger Rail Association (casprail.org) is an advocacy and lobbying organization dedicated to the improvement of passenger rail service on the west coast of the United States.Casprail.org is a membership, for-profit organization with all proceeds going to lobbying and promotional activities for improved passenger rail on the west coast. Projects include improving the routes, schedules and elderly/handicapped-friendly ride and equipment.

I provide technical and financial viability analysis around energy storage for projects undertaken by the Oregon Clean Power Cooperative. The cooperative installs community renewable energy projects typically in the 50 - 200KW range. Some of the project owners desire to incorporate disaster resiliency through an energy storage component. I currently do this in a volunteer capacity, but plan to contribute to this industry full time within a couple of years. I would love to work on projects such as the large-scale solar/wind and storage installations in Hawaii and Australia that are providing cost-effective energy that is independent of fossil fuels.

I manage the readiness, deployment and ongoing delivery of global service and support for HP's Ink Jet High-speed production solutions business (the multi-million dollar inkjet webpress business). This includes the typical aspects of global service and support programs for high-tech, high complexity capital budget products (Documentation, Training, Service offerings, spare parts, escalation, call center, etc.). I also manage product warranty, and the multi-million dollar annual warranty budget, monitor product quality and field updates to improve quality and customer TCE (Total Customer Experience).

Precision Plant Systems was formed to commercialize crop-sensing technology from Oregon State University (OSU) and developed the handheld "PingMeter" to detect leaf Nitrogen and water content. The meter was developed, prototyped and Beta'd with UC Davis, OSU and various growers. The drop in cost of natural gas, and subsequently nitrogen fertilizer, marginalized this product. We also developed and sold mobile scouting software for the management of commercial crops and forest products, and for information gathering on road, trail and power line condition, invasive plant locations etc. Our CropIQ, ForestIQ and PatrolIQ products running on the Windows Mobile platform enabled managers to proactively achieve optimal information for better quality and yields with the most efficient use of physical and financial resources. Each piece of scouting information was tagged with its' GPS location and a map was generated showing the status of your assets. Where applicable, this data was compared to industry standards and a course of action (such as fertilization, mitigation or irrigation) was indicated. The Business Enterprise Center is the Willamette Valley's premier technology and traded-sector business incubator. It is located at 1965 SW Airport Avenue, in the Corvallis Airport Industrial park in Corvallis, Oregon (www.thebec.com) I chaired a diverse a board of directors representing local and regional stakeholders, VC's and businesses. These included Oregon State University, HP, ONAMI, CH2MHill, City government, County government etc. The board directs the strategy, operation and financing of the business incubator/accelerator and approves and guides the new startups in the incubator.

I was responsible for all aspects of ImTech's Thermal Inkjet ink business. I started up, identified financing and managed ImTechs' ink development and cartridge fill business. I developed and maintained relationships with HP SPS and many companies in the package marking industry as well as end customers. ImTech focuses primarily on the industrial package marking and coding, mail addressing, ID cards, and scan & print markets (www.imtech-or.com). I strategized, planned and managed development, qualification, scale-up, manufacturing and sales. The primary product was ImTech's unique (patent-pending) UV-Curable TIJ ink filled in HP 45A cartridges.

I managed a large multi-disciplinary department in the HP inkjet empire. The laboratory included engineering, prototyping, marketing, and supply-chain functions. We were tasked with imagining, demonstrating, vetting and launching new businesses for Hewlett-Packard based on HPs' physical science and business core capabilities. I created and ran an internal incubator within HP. I consulted on big-company internal innovation and strategies for beating the 'innovator's dilema'. I was the R&D manager for an InkJet photo minilab start-up and was instrumental in the creation of the Kodak-HP joint venture "Phogenix" .

I started my career with HP as an electrical engineer on HP calculator peripherals, including HP's first inkjet printer, "ThinkJet." I spent time as a manufacturing engineer on several of my products when they transitioned to manufacturing (a common HP practice at the time). I managed the OEM Engineering function for HP in Vancouver WA (part of the Marketing dept) and participated in sales, design, documentation and fulfillment. I was on the design team for 5 of HP's InkJet Cartridges in the writing system and system test functions. I became a 1st level project manager for a new color cartridge, and then program manager on several new business programs.
